The fluid-structure interaction (FSI) is the coupling between laws of different physics, especially those of fluid dynamics and structural mechanics.
This coupling takes into account the pressure or thermal field of a CFD (computational fluid dynamics) analysis and the direct consequences of this load on the structural analysis.
There are numerous components that can be studied from an FSI perspective. Industrial valves, pipes that transport fluids at high temperatures, rotary machine rotors, wind turbines, blood valves, external cabinet housings, parabolic antennas, among others. Basically, most products involve multiple physics and today this type of study is even more viable and widely used.
