Introduction to Structural Simulation

  • Presential
  • Structural Analysis

For engineering who wish to start or improve the knowledge in Computational Simulation, the ESSS Institute has developed a complete course that links the Finite Element Method theory to practice with applications in the CAE ANSYS Mechanical tool.

The aim of the course is to provide the understanding of numerical modeling and solution so that the professional is able to perform structural analysis and interpret the results through a critical approach.

The course is structured in three modules: Introduction to the Finite Element Method (FEM), Preparation of geometries with ANSYS SpaceClaim and Structural Simulation using ANSYS Mechanical software.

METHODOLOGY:

Intensive training with ESSS specialists.

PROGRAM:

Module 1 - Introduction to the Finite Element Method - FEM (08h / 1 day)
Introduction to the Finite Element Method - Historical aspects and bibliographic references on the subject;
Revision of Solid Mechanics - Theoretical aspects on tension, deformation, constitutive equations, resistance criteria and differential equations of equilibrium;
Modeling Techniques - Hierarchical modeling approach, types of models and their complexities, general procedure for modeling a problem;
Matrix Analysis of Structures - Construction of rigidity matrices for lattice and beam elements. Essential concepts such as rigidity, degree of freedom. Assembly of connection matrices and global stiffness for simple problems;
Formulation of the Finite Element Method - Direct method, differential, strong and weak forms of equilibrium equations, Ritz method, Galerkin method, mesh convergence and shape functions for elements;
Characteristics and types of finite elements: trusses, beams, plates, shells - Finite element types, solid (3D and 2D), structural elements (beam, truss, shell, plate). Approach some problems in solid models and ways to solve them. Suggestion of types of elements, according to the application;
Finite Element software architecture: computational aspect.
